What is the RTS Score?

The RTS Score (Real-Time Speed Score) is the industry's first true measure of internet stability. It is a 0-100 index designed to expose network flaws that traditional speed tests hide.

Why standard speed tests lie to you

For a decade, traditional speed tests (like Ookla and Fast.com) have taught the world that higher bandwidth (Mbps) equals better internet. This is fundamentally false for modern internet usage.

If you have a Gigabit (1,000 Mbps) connection, but your router is dropping packets and your ping spikes to 300ms every few seconds, your video calls will freeze and your games will lag uncontrollably. A standard speed test will still give you a "Great" result because it only cares about raw throughput.

The RTS Score was built to fix this. It acts as a heart-rate monitor for your connection, mathematically penalizing instability (ping spikes, jitter, and packet loss) to give you a true, 0-100 health rating.

How is the RTS Score calculated?

To ensure global fairness, RealTimeSpeed computes two distinct scores. Both start at a perfect 100 and deduct points based on strict, transparent mathematical caps.

The Experience Score (v2)

The consumer-facing score you see in the floating orb on your dashboard. It strictly caps penalties so a highly stable 25 Mbps connection will score higher than an unstable 1,000 Mbps connection.

  • Max Ping Penalty: 25 pts
  • Max Jitter Penalty: 15 pts
  • Max Packet Loss Penalty: 20 pts
  • Max Download Penalty: 25 pts
  • Max Upload Penalty: 15 pts

The Stability Index

A hidden, throughput-blind metric used by data scientists for global ISP rankings. It completely ignores Mbps and judges ISPs purely on their network stability and routing quality.

  • Max Ping Penalty: 30 pts
  • Max Jitter Penalty: 35 pts
  • Max Packet Loss Penalty: 35 pts
  • Download Penalty: 0 pts (Ignored)
  • Upload Penalty: 0 pts (Ignored)
